Brazilian waxing FAQ
Here's everything you want to know about brazilian waxing but were too afraid to ask....
What is a brazilian wax?
A brazilian wax is an extreme wax where all the hair is removed from front to back. Brazilian waxing popular because it gives a clean, close wax and increases sensitivity. Waxing is the best way to remove unwanted hair as it removes hair from the roots not just the skin surface.
Women always comment that it feels more hygienic and there is no stubble or rash that a razor gives you. It also gives you the freedom to wear skimpy lingerie or swimwear with confidence.
How long does the hair need to be?
Hair needs to be 3-4 weeks growth or 1cm long. Any shorter than this the wax won't pick up the hair, any longer than this it can be unnecessarily uncomfortable to wax. Feel free to trim the hair before your appointment.
What do I wear during a brazilian wax and is it embarrassing?
You will be asked to remove all clothing from the waist down and a towel will be provided to drape over you.
We also provide a freshen up wipe for you to use.
Remember we're professionals and this is a very popular treatment that we perform every day!
To put it simply you don't have anything we haven't seen before!
Does it hurt?
Your first brazilian will be the most uncomfortable as there is more hair and it can be coarse, especially if you have been shaving. The pain is short and sharp and subsides when the waxing is complete. How much it hurts depend on the individual. If you are worried about the pain then we suggest you take nurofen an hour before your appointment.
Pain is reduced each time you are waxed as the hair growth gets less.
Don't wax just before or during your period as your skin is more sensitive at this time. Caffeine, nicotine and stress can also add to the pain factor. It is common to have redness after waxing but this will subside.
Everyone always says they expected it to hurt more and that the result is definitely worth it!
How long does the wax last and how often do i need to get it done?
The wax will last 3-6 weeks and we recommend that you are waxed every 4-6 weeks. This will make the waxing procedure quicker, less painful and the hair will come back sparser each time.
I'm pregnant. Can i get a brazilian wax?
Brazilian waxing is becoming a popular pre birth preparation for many women. We advise starting brazilian waxing early on in the pregnancy and if you are not feeling well in the first trimester then around four months is best. Once you start waxing WE HIGHLY RECOMMEND keeping up with the waxing every 4 weeks until you are due.
The reason for this is the area while pregnant becomes hot, swollen and being a vascular area there is a lot more blood flow which can make the skin softer, thinner and more sensitive.
Waxing every 4 weeks will mean there is less hair and less chance of trauma to the area. First timers or leaving waxing longer than 4 week intervals, later on in the pregnancy is not advised as the hair is thicker and harder to wax.
Varicose veins on the labia can be a problem during pregnancy and in this case brazilian waxing is contraindicated. Please inform your therapist if you are suffering from this.
